Have you ever seen how quickly nature can rewrite a person's day?

Recently, I hosted a couple for a private, two-hour forest bathing session at the beautiful Historic Johnson Farm. When they first pulled up, the tension in the air was palpable. The husband was on his phone, his shoulders tight and jaw clenched.

When they walked into the center, his wife shared that they had endured a long afternoon buried in bureaucratic paperwork.

We all know that specific kind of exhaustion—the kind that leaves your mind spinning and your body on high alert.

But nature has a beautiful way of meeting us exactly where we are.

We stepped into the shaded yard of the farmhouse, sat on a swing under an ancient poplar and began a slow, deliberate guided meditation focusing on the feel of the breeze on our skin, the smell of white pines lining the back fence, the call of bluebirds as they flew by to feed their young.

Slowly, the magic happened.

Within the first twenty minutes, the husband's demeanor had completely changed. He rose from the meditation and strolled slowly down the wooded pasture trail. He crawled under a gate and immersed himself into a bamboo grove that beckoned with its tall fluted stalks and deep shade.

Further along, he proceeded to lean against a fence post and gaze for several minutes at the farms small herd of goats and donkeys grazing inside their pasture.

When he reached the end of the trail, he once again pulled out his phone.

I thought, “Oh no, We’ve lost him again!”

But instead of getting lost in the modern world, he had gotten lost in the beauty of the woods and had taken a few photos he was excited to share.

That is the power of forest bathing at Historic Johnson Farm. It isn't a hike or history lesson alone. It’s a mindful experience that makes space for the natural world to do what it does best.

It takes the cortisol pumping through our veins and gently replaces it with peace.

A huge thank you to this wonderful couple for trusting the process and allowing the farm and its natural setting to work its magic.
